UBConnect expands to Poland

With the 5G development speeding up both in Norway and in Europe, UBConnect continues its expansion by establishing a base in Poland.

Lasse B. Bjørgan, the CEO of the UBConnect Group, commented: -The Polish telecom market is huge; it is therefore a natural step for UBConnect to establish a company branch and offices in Poland. This is also in line with our ambition to become a big player in the 5G rollouts throughout Europe. I am very happy that Tomasz Malkut joined our team and will be heading our Poland operations”

A big country with a big potential

The Polish telecom market was one of the deciding factors when weighing the decision for further expansion. The Polish mobile market is constantly growing with a total of about 54 million mobile subscriptions. 4G/LTE-A technology coverage is strong and varies between operators at the level of 85% to 90%. The Office of Electronic Communication (UKE), the Polish regulatory authority responsible for telecommunications and frequency resources management, estimates that by 2025 66% of users in Poland will use a 5G network.

-Poland is quite a big country, well established in terms of telecommunication; we have 4 mobile operators, which means there is potential for us to do business, but more than that, we have skilled people with experience in the industry. These two things combined promise great things for UBConnect’s fourth hub, says Tomasz Malkut, Country Manager for UBConnect Poland.

A lot to offer

-The decision to come to Poland was made easily, and the process of establishing a legal entity was equally quick, which I like, shares Tomasz. -The process was aided by legal advisors, who helped us in all local legal matters. I’m pleased to say that we can already begin hiring!

-I think we have a lot to offer in terms of work experience, learning and development, as well as a professional work environment. We truly are an international company, well established and growing, with an added advantage – a big majority of current projects are in Norway, working on 5G equipment.

Supporting local operators

The upgrade to 5G in Poland has been halted due to Covid-19, and as such, little progress has been made aside from some small pilots led by different operators. Nevertheless, Tomasz is optimistic about future developments and the role UBConnect will play in them.

-Part of our vision is to bring our experience in 5G technologies to Poland and support Polish operators and vendors in this digital transformation, says Tomasz.

-This is what the future will be, and I’m very excited for the opportunity to start using ultra-fast mobile internet, massive automation offered by the Internet of Things, or a new way of transportation provided by smart cities. This is the whole purpose of building a new generation of networks – this is it!

15 by the end of the year, 30 next year

UBConnect has ambitious plans to significantly expand its workforce in Poland and is looking to hire at least 15 people by the end of the year. We are looking for all profiles: Project Managers, Site Managers, Telecommunication Engineers and TSSR Design Engineers. We are on the hunt for highly skilled and educated people, preferably with a background in telecommunication.

The office in Poland is UBConnect's fourth location, after Norway, Serbia and Slovakia. Read more about the expansion to Slovakia here.
